South Dunedin Baptist Church is a diverse flock, made up of people on a journey to discover the fullness of God through Christ, and to fulfil His will wherever He has placed us. We seek to be a people of gracious generosity, supporting one another and reaching out to those who do not know the love of God

Our motivation comes from the mission of Christ himself, to redeem the lives of broken people, for it is God’s will that every individual should, through salvation, become His son or daughter and know hope in their present circumstances. In knowing and experiencing this we fulfil our humanity, enjoying God’s love and bringing glory to him.

We believe that loving God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength and loving others as ourselves is the only basis for an authentic spiritual life. As a Church we seek to build on this by following the teachings of the scriptures and the wisdom of faithful Christians who have gone before us. Our conduct and practice are under the guiding of the Holy Spirit. Prayer and worship are at the heart of our lives, inspiring us to be Christ-centred, conduits of His love in everything we do and say.

We seek to become mature followers of Christ, seeking after His kingdom and righteousness. We take seriously our Lord’s commission to make disciples. We will, therefore, gently instruct and encourage one another in matters of prayer, personal bible reading, righteousness, purity, faith sharing and to live out our life’s purpose before God in compassionate service of others.

We are conscious before God of our special responsibilities as parents, mentors, teachers of children and friends. Our attitude towards them will be inclusive in worship, the sacraments and their participation in church life will be encouraged. We will therefore devote ourselves to their nurture and spiritual development.

Our Sunday services provide the opportunity for us to worship, pray, learn and grow as a community of believers, to hear God’s voice corporately and to respond obediently to the challenges He brings us. We will express our devotion through songs of worship, public prayers, the reading of the scriptures, testimonies, talks and discussions.
